Lopsided galactic bars

چکیده
Most of the observed and simulated galactic bars are symmetric in face-on view. However, there indeed cases that off-center with respect to disk or have an asymmetric shape. The only well-known example showing both these features is Large Magellanic Cloud. We report on identification several lopsided Illustris TNG100 simulation found among a sample elongated bar-like galaxies studied past. show clear asymmetry view, which shape footprint. measured evolution different parameters bars’ as function time find preserved for few Gyr. It can grow together bar appear later, after formation. considered two scenarios leading formation using controlled simulations. In first, Milky Way-like galaxy interacts massive companion placed radial orbit plane perpendicular orientation at first passage. second, initially has growth its more similar one IllustrisTNG galaxies, where it also preceded by presence disk. thus possible born disks, although some cases, difference between occurrence components quite large.

On Bars, Bulges and Fuelling of Active Galactic Nuclei
Both fuelling of a central black hole and the build-up of bulges are – at least theoretically – facilitated by non-axisymmetric potentials. It is argued here that the recently established surface brightness division between bulge-dominated galaxies that dominate the local type 2 AGN luminosity function, and diskdominated galaxies that host (at best) weak AGN can be understood in terms of a simp...

Context. Recent analysis of stellar populations in barred galaxies have focused on the spatial distribution of stellar population ages and metallicities. However, barred galaxies are complex objects where dynamical instabilities play a leading role in shaping any spatial
متن کاملLopsided Reasoning on Lopsided Tests and Multiple Comparisons
For those who have not recognized the disparate natures of tests of statistical hypotheses and tests of scientific hypotheses, one-tailed statistical tests of null hypotheses such as ∂ ≤ 0 or ∂ ≥ 0 have often seemed a reasonable procedure. We earlier reviewed the many grounds for not regarding them as such. To have at least some power for detection of effects in the unpredicted direction, sever...
متن کاملEstablishing the Connection between Peanut-shaped Bulges and Galactic Bars
It has been suggested that the peanut-shaped bulges seen in some edge-on disk galaxies are due to the presence of a central bar. Although bars cannot be detected photometrically in edge-on galaxies, we show that barred potentials produce a strong kinematic signature in the form of double-peaked line-of-sight velocity distributions with a characteristic “figure-ofeight” variation with radius. We...

Both the fueling of a central black hole and the buildup of bulges are—at least theoretically—facilitated by nonaxisymmetric potentials. It is argued here that the recently established surface brightness division between bulgedominated galaxies that dominate the local type 2 active galactic nucleus (AGN) luminosity function and diskdominated galaxies that host (at best) weak AGNs can be underst...
